02/14/20 - NH TROOPERS ASSOCIATION
For Immediate Release February 12, 2020 For more information contact: Trooper Hawley Rae or Trooper Margaret Ready 603-323-3333 State Police cruiser crash, Route 28 in Alton photo of NH Police Cruiser On February 12, 2020, at approximately 9:30 am, the Alton Police Department and State Police responded to a report of a two-vehicle motor vehicle crash involving a State Police cruiser on Route 28 in Alton. Upon their arrival on scene it was determined that Sergeant Russ Holmes, of the Troop E barracks in Tamworth, was traveling north on Route 28 when he slowed to make a left turn onto Old Wolfeboro Road. While Sergeant Holmes was stopped, and waiting for southbound traffic to clear, he was struck from behind by a 1996 Ford Ranger. The operator of the Ford Ranger was identified as Calvin Cheney, age 27, of New Durham, NH. During the course of this investigation, CHENEY admitted to being distracted, as he was reaching for his cell phone just prior to the crash. This case is currently under investigation and charges may be forthcoming. CHENEY refused medical treatment and was released from the scene. Sergeant Holmes was transported to the Concord Hospital for evaluation of injuries resulting from this crash. Anyone that may have further information related to this collision, or who witnessed this collsion are encouraged to contact Trooper Hawley Rae or Trooper Margaret Ready at 603-323-3333.
Motor Vehicle Crash Involving a State Police Cruiser, Interstate 93, New Hampton
02/14/20 - NH TROOPERS ASSOCIATION
News and Events For Immediate Release February 8, 2020 For more information contact: Sergeant Carl Huddleston 603-223-8922 carl.huddleston@dos.nh.gov Motor Vehicle Crash Involving a State Police Cruiser, Interstate 93, New Hampton On Saturday, February 8, 2020 at approximately 10:25 AM, Trooper Kevin Raymond of the New Hampshire State Police Troop-G Barracks had just arrived on scene to assist another Trooper with a motor vehicle crash on Interstate 93 southbound in the Town of New Hampton. His cruiser, a 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe, was parked in the right hand breakdown lane with his emergency lights activated. Shortly after arriving on scene Trooper Raymond was in the process of retrieving some emergency gear from his rear seat. His attention was drawn to the sound of screeching tires as he observed a vehicle heading right for him and his cruiser. Having only a second or two to react Trooper Raymond jumped onto the cruiser running board as a vehicle sped by hitting the rear driver side door. This vehicle continued down the road for a distance before coming to final rest in the center median. This vehicle was a 2005 Toyota Camry operated Eric Jenness, age 33 of Plymouth, NH. Jenness told the investigating Troopers that he had momentarily look down at his cell phone and when he looked back up he was heading for the cruiser and could not avoid crashing into to it. Trooper Raymond did not appear to have suffered any injuries in the crash. Jenness was evaluated on scene for minor injuries however he was not transported for any follow up treatment. Initial investigation revealed that the 2005 Toyota Camry, operated by E. Jenness was traveling southbound on Interstate 93 in the right hand travel lane. The 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe marked State Police cruiser was parked in the right hand breakdown lane assisting with another crash. The operator of the Toyota Camry was distracted by his cell phone and had crashed into the parked State Police Cruiser. It appears that Jenness was in violation of the "Use of Mobile Electronic Devices While Driving" law and the "Motorist Duties When Approaching Highway Emergencies" (Move Over) law. As a result of the collision, Interstate 93 northbound in this area was limited to one lane for about an hour and a half as the investigation was conducted. The New Hampshire State Police were assisted on scene by the Ashland Fire and Rescue Department, New Hampton Fire and Rescue Department, and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation. Anyone that may have further information relating to this collision is encouraged to contact Sergeant Carl Huddleston of the New Hampshire State Police-Troop G at 603-223-8922 or at carl.huddleston@dos.nh.gov.

  • Teamsters understand the value in union membership. Higher pay, better benefits, and a greater voice in the workplace are standards set by union members that won’t be given up without a fight, even after the Supreme Court’s decision in the “Janus v. AFSCME” case.

While it is true that this ruling may create temporary roadblocks, public employees throughout the United States need to remain unified. We cannot allow the progress working people have made in union to be slowed down because of lawsuits that disregard the value of public employees.

The Janus decision came about because anti-employee forces spent millions of dollars on lobbying and court challenges for over 40 years. Attacks from these outside groups, backed by secret donors, seek to eliminate the freedom of public employees to negotiate with their employer over the value of their work.

Many Teamster members around the country have held conversations with their co-workers about the impact of the Supreme Court decision to reinforce the value of remaining unified. Whether at the worksite or at the ballot box, members are fighting back against these attacks.

Public sector Teamsters have made it their career to serve their country and community, and any attempt to take away their freedom to join together is an attack on those who are the foundation of America.

Our middle class was built by everyday working people, standing together in union. The Teamsters honor that history by continuing the fight to give working people the promise of the American dream.

That won’t end with the Janus decision. The Teamsters will continue to organize, mobilize, and do whatever is necessary to achieve prosperity through collective action.

  • We Are eXPOsing XPO’s Global Greed

XPO Logistics is a top ten global logistics and transportation company with annual revenue of $15 billion and 89,000 employees, another 10,000 workers classified as independent contractors, and thousands more working for firms that subcontract with XPO. We are the REAL workers at XPO Logistics worldwide exposing the truth about the company’s global greed, illegal wage theft, unsafe conditions, and abhorrent and vicious anti-worker, anti-union tactics.

This greed includes mistreating former Con-way Freight workers in the United States who are being kept in the dark about terminal closures and layoffs, and the company’s illegal refusal to bargain contracts and denying their workers’ federally protected right to organize. It also includes port, rail and last-mile drivers around the country and in Southern California fighting wage theft in excess of $200 million because they are misclassified as independent contractors and denied the right to form their union. This greed has caused numerous lawsuits and strikes.  Greed also means an unsafe workplace and mistreating its warehouse employees.

XPO’s greed extends to Europe beginning with breaking its promise to not layoff any workers for at least 18 months. French workers and the unions have been fighting back against XPO’s disrespect, lies and attempts to slash jobs. Similar struggles are taking place in Great Britain, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, and across Europe.

Join the worldwide struggle now! Get involved with this campaign by joining the Facebook group “XPO Exposed.”

Together, we can eXPOse the company’s global greed and win fairness, respect and dignity for tens of thousands of XPO employees around the world!

  • This web page provides information on the ongoing effort to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Since 1994, NAFTA has devastated working families, putting corporate profits ahead of people.  What’s worse is that NAFTA has become the blueprint for all other trade agreements, from the way that it was negotiated in secret, to the bad provisions that have made their way into every agreement that has been signed since then.  Now, NAFTA is being renegotiated and we demand that it be reframed to work for workers instead of corporate interests.
